Telehealth treatment sessions
What is a telehealth video consultation?
A telehealth video consultation is a consultation between a client from one location and their therapist, based at another location.
Advantages of telehealth video consultations
Everyone’s situation is different but in general, the benefits of this service include:
How can I have a telehealth video consultation with my therapist?
To have a telehealth video consultation with your therapist, we require advance notice of your request and your therapist(s) must consider it safe and suitable for you.
Do I have to participate?
No. You are not required to participate in telehealth consultations if you do not believe this would be of value to your ongoing care/support needs. A telehealth consultation will only happen if your clinicians consider it safe and suitable and you consent to participate in the telehealth consultation.
Where are they provided?
You can participate in a telehealth video consultation from anywhere you are able to access the internet, and it is deemed safe and appropriate for you to participate from, with regard to activities to be undertaken and your privacy.
Who will arrange it?
Our administration team are able to assist with the arranging of telehealth consultations.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Telehealth consultations can require additional coordination, for both you and us, so please try to keep your telehealth consultations.
If you need to cancel, please let us know as soon as possible, with as much notice as you can provide; cancellation fees may apply as per standard, face-to-face appointment policies.
How should I prepare?
You can get the most out of your telehealth consultation by following these simple steps:
What happens at the telehealth video consultation appointment?
You and your therapist will be on screen at each end of the telehealth consultation.
At the beginning of the consultation, you will be asked to confirm your/the client’s name and date of birth. The therapist will speak with you and ask you questions in the same way as they would at a face-to-face consultation.
Who will be present?
You and your therapist – as with a face-to-face appointment, you may have family, friend(s) or carer(s) accompany you if you wish.
How private is a telehealth video consultation?
The same privacy and confidentiality requirements that apply to face-to-face consultations apply to telehealth consultations.
What if I have additional needs or requirements?
If you have additional needs (such as an interpreter) please let our administration team know and they will make a note of these when your telehealth consultation is scheduled.
Will the telehealth video consultation be recorded?
No. Our practice does not record telehealth consultations, and we ask that clients do not record consultations. If your therapist thinks it would be helpful for you to record particular images or sections of your telehealth consultation, they will first seek your written permission to do so and they would ask you to repeat, and record your consent.
What if I feel I can’t continue?
Many clients feel a little nervous at the beginning of their first telehealth consultation because it’s a new way of seeing their therapist. However, most clients soon feel comfortable. It’s unlikely you’ll feel unable to continue with a telehealth video consultation. If this does happen for any reason, you can pause or end the consultation early, however consultation fees will still apply.
How much will it cost?
Our normal fees and billing process will apply.
If there are likely to be any other fees associated with the telehealth consultation, we will let you know in advance. If you have specific questions in relation to billing for telehealth, please contact our administrative team.
Am I eligible for rebates?
Medicare rebates for telehealth video consultations are available to clients from remote and regional areas, as well as clients of residential aged care facilities or Aboriginal health services anywhere in Australia. If you fall into one of these client categories and are privately billed, you will be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
NDIS funded clients are eligible for telehealth consults under their existing funding arrangements.
If you would like to seek a rebate from your private health insurer, we encourage you to clarify and confirm this with your insurer directly, as policy inclusions will differ between funds and levels of cover.
How can I provide feedback?
We are keen to get your feedback so we can continue to improve our video consultation services. Our administration team are always happy to accept informal feedback or to provide you with a client feedback form. We will ask for your permission to share your feedback anonymously with our practice team. You can choose for your feedback to remain confidential.
What if I have any other questions?
If you have any questions about whether a telehealth consultation may be suitable for you, please talk to your therapist.
If you have any general questions about how telehealth consultations work, please talk to a member of our team.
